GARY | The groundbreaking of the South Shore Commons was held Wednesday in the City of Gary. Edgewater Systems and partners will build a 60-unit, two-story permanent supportive housing development on the vacant property located east of Grant St. on 20th Ave., between Lincoln and Pierce streets in Gary.

“Today’s groundbreaking is a prime example of a public–private partnership and how it can work,” Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson said. “All of these partners came together, and now the resources are in place to develop a facility that will give more than 60 Gary residents a new place to live, filled with amenities.”

The project is a partnership between Edgewater Systems for Balanced Living, the City of Gary, UP Development, LLC, Broadway Area Community Development Corp., and NSP Consultants.
